By Jujitsu, 2023-04-24

It is with a heavy heart I share the news of the following loss:

William Carstairs 2nd Ju JItsu and former Chairman to the SJJA, he pioneered and steered the SJJA to becoming the organisation it is today. Bill was a stalward during the recognition process which culminated in the SJJA being the official Scottish Sport Council (Sportscotland) Governing Body for Ju JItsu. Bill also was the coach for Ju JItsu clubs at Dick McTaggart Centre, Douglas Sports Centre, and Craigie High School Ju JItsu Club. His contribution will always be considered mammoth as he steered the SJJA to it current status. RIP Wiliam Carstairs Sensei.

Fumio Demura 9th Dan Karate and Kobudo legend was a great friend to the SJJA and Hanshi Ross 9th Dan, our Techincal Director. Fumio while he lived in California taught all over the world. He was a giant amoung martial artists and leaves a huge legacy behind. Fumio died today after a period of ill health but will be remembered for his huge contribution to martial arts. RIP Fumio Demura Sensei

Both these men gave part of their lives to the continuance of peace, respect and martial development. Qualities which many men fail to impart. They may be gone but their memories live on.

Corona Virus 2021 - update

By Jujitsu, 2021-03-16

Dear Members

Regrettably we find ourselves still in lockdown, albeit there are relaxations to some restrictions on the horizon, but I doubt if it will include us.

With the advent of the new 5 level Scottish Government approach to Covid-19 we have published our strategy for the Return to Sport for Ju Jitsu. It consists of easy to read tables with all the necessary information you'll need at a glance.  It can be found at the bottom of the right hand column on this page.

Along side it, we have updated our arrangements for the Return to Sport document which shows the restrictions and advice.

Additional advice has been added for Tier 4 areas.

If you have further problems or simply wish some further advice, please feel free to contact us at scottishjujitsu@aol.com. We'll be happy to advise you accordingly.

If you have any questions or need clarity, please contact:

Corona Virus 2020 - Update - Phase 2

By Jujitsu, 2020-06-24
Corona Virus 2020 - Update - Phase 2

Well Phase 2 is here and the Scottish Ju Jitsu Association has produced the guidelines for all Ju Jitsu participation in Scotland. The message is clear. The nation is not ready to permit indoor activities such as Ju Jitsu yet, however,  it is permissible for a small group to meet outdoors to exercise and practice Kobudo (weaponry) in kata form in preparation for picking up the activity when the restrictions relax sufficiently to permit it indoors. Full details can be found in the SJJA Phase 2 Arrangement for Ju Jitsu document found on the right. It should be read in conjunction with the Scottish Government's Route Map for the return to sport also found as a link on the right.  If you have further problems or simply wish some further advice, please feel free to contact us at scottishjujitsu@aol.com. We'll be happy to advise you accordingly.

Qustion Time...

By Jujitsu, 2017-01-30

One of our junior members posed a great question in class today. He asked, "who invested the toothbrush? "

If you have a response pop it into your blog or send the SJJA a message. Good Luck.

By Jujitsu, 2016-12-12
January 2017

Well 2017 has come in with a bang. This year we have some big plans to celebrate a few milestones. The SJJA have been successfully coaching Ju Jitsu in Spain for 25 years. We may have a visit this year from students from Spain to our Honbu Dojo.  We will also be celebrating out 9th year at the new HQ. All clubs have been experiencing an increase in membership, which hopefully is a tidal change for the sport. New members always welcome. Bring it on!
